Does a Hungry Ghost Haunt You?
You are whole. You are Enough.
“Hungry Ghosts” are monsters from the Buddhist hell realms. Tormented for eternity by insatiable desire, they sport tiny mouths and gigantic, distended stomachs.
That emptiness we feel? That feeling that we will never BE enough, HAVE enough, or ACCOMPLISH enough is the Hungry Ghost that haunts us in the here and now.
We are born feeling whole, but something or someone knocks that feeling out of us. We spend the rest of our lives trying to fill the void. We forget that we are STILL WHOLE and have been whole all along.
We look for wholeness in all the wrong places, that is, outside ourselves. All the Doritos we gobble, shoes we buy, or approval we seek from others will never fill the void.
The Hungry Ghost pulls us out of our bodies. The part that’s chasing the “fix” isn’t tending to the home fires. It’s as if one-half of us went out to get a loaf of bread and never came home. The other half is grieving and coping the best it can, but it’s operating at half power. We betray and abandon ourselves.
Your Hungry Ghost will rob you of your health, your sanity, and your financial well-being. Worst of all, it will siphon off vast amounts of energy because chasing the “fix” takes a lot of fuel.
Exorcising the Hungry Ghost is not easy, but we can learn the needed self-acceptance. We can retrieve the memory of our wholeness.
