Your day 7 task is to deal with your rewards, whether points or miles.

  • Check your balance.
  • See if any points or miles are on the brink of expiration.
  • Use those expiring points. Convert to cash, donate them, or buy something. (Points are often “worth” more when converted into merchandise than cash, but take the cash haircut if there’s nothing you want. It’s better than inaction.)
  • Decide if you want to use all of your rewards or if you want to rack them up for something specific later.

Money, like Qi, wants to flow. Being a form of money, rewards should be shown love and attention, too.

Some people are boot lickers. I was a stamp licker growing up.

I spent hours licking Gold Bond trading stamps from grocery stores and meticulously pasting them into little booklets. My aunt would redeem the booklets for stuff. Going “shopping” at the redemption center was fun because it was filled to the rafters with appliances and tchotchkes, but you couldn’t buy anything. You had to use booklets.

In 1970s Hawai’i, every purchase, it seemed, came with a strip of bright yellow trading stamps. The bigger the tab, the longer the strip and the more it was…
